居藝廊將於五月份推出牙買加藝術家 Nigel Scott 在臺灣首次個展—「Wave is Forever」。Nigel Scott的作品出色而獨特，以攝影的形式跨越了抽象概念與觸覺的質感，並在當中創造了屬於他獨特的視覺張力；他的人像攝影維持著美與身體的可塑性，在畫面中創造了一道溫柔而唯美的距離；而他的城市/海灘攝影，則將人造無機物與環境形成對比，將「人」的存在保留於周遭，卻在畫面之外。 這次在Wave is Forever的個展中，將會展出Nigel Scott 1985年至2003年來不同的商業合作與藝術攝影作品，其中包含與多倫多模特兒Meredith與設計師Serge Girardi的合作、刊登於《浮華世界》雜誌義大利刊的雨傘創意作品、由多倫多服裝設計品牌Comrags設計造型並刊登於多倫多雜誌Mode one的特色攝影、與藝術家Donald Robertson合作的時尚攝影作品、古著Yves Saint Laurent為時尚與攝影藝術節的委託攝影作品等等；大多是早期在多倫多、巴黎、紐約及日本所創作，在當時主要為商業合作客戶所攝製。曾經多次被刊登在不同時尚、藝術與攝影雜誌當中。至今他仍在不斷的在發掘新的想法來創造屬於自己的「圖像」，這樣的想法也長久的影響且啟發自他對於攝影的熱誠，成為了許多作品中十分重要的一部分。 除此之外，在本次的個展中也將展出曾收錄在出版作品《與藍的對話Conversations with Blue》中的藍曬作品，藉由他獨特飽滿的藍色與顯影中的植物姿態展現了脆弱與和諧的瞬間，不僅傳達他對於海洋的熱愛與敬重，同時也呼應著本次的展覽名稱「Wave is Forever」，呈現他對於海洋與自然環境所想表達的訊息：「當海浪停止，星球也將死亡」。 這是Nigel Scott首度在台灣的展出，而本次展出的系列作品同時也是他首次在亞洲公開亮相，G.Gallery更是成為首度展出其中作品“Hidden Gem”的藝廊。 G.Gallery is pleased to present ‘Wave is Forever’, a solo exhibition by Jamaica artist Nigel Scott. Nigel Scott is a master behind the lens. His photography oscillates between the abstract, conceptual and the tactile. The synthesis of these forms creates a unique visual tension while maintaining the beauty and malleability of his subject. His works reveal a tender aesthetic of the human form, the quiet moments in the city and the stillness of the ocean. His photography reconfigures these forms in contrast with the environment, allowing them to go beyond the frame and connect with the viewer.
In this solo exhibition, “Wave is Forever”, Scott will exhibit his art photography work since 1985 until 2003. The show will exhibit portraits of Toronto-based model, Meredith for designer Serge Girardi, visual concepts for Vanity Magazine Italy, editorial for Toronto magazine, Mode One, featuring designs by Toronto’s Comrags, Fashion photography for Yves Saint Laurent commissioned for Festival de la Photo de la Mode exhibition in NYC, Azzedine Alaïa image created for Holt Renfrew and more. Most of the works included in the exhibit are his early works from Toronto, Paris, New York. Apart from his published works, he continues to explore ideas to create personal images that will resonate with a wider audience, aiming to inspire and communicate his love of photography. This show will also exhibit cyanotype works that were included in his published book, “Conversations with Blue”. In these works, Scott presents captured moments of fragility and harmony through a peculiar satiation with the medium’s hue. These one of a kind images convey his love and respect for the ocean, essentially echoing the name of the exhibition, "Wave is Forever", and its message: When waves stop, the planet dies. This is Nigel Scott’s debut exhibition in Taiwan at G Gallery. 1955出生於牙買加京斯敦，在1970年中期前往加拿大多倫多展開了他的攝影生涯。曾在1975年時有機會替雷鬼樂鼻祖Bob Marley拍攝首度在南美洲演唱會的舞台照片；1987年於Jane Cotlin藝廊展出，在同一年離開了多倫多前往巴黎從事時尚攝影，並在當地居住了十年，且同時持續的發展他的藝術型創作，在不同形式的系列創作上展現了充分的創造力，結合了衝浪板、攝影與書籍等等，時尚攝影作品也數次作為精選收錄在Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Glamour, Max and Cosmopolitan等雜誌中。於1996移居美國紐約，而現今他在許多不同的城市發展，並且在東京出版了最新的書籍。除了攝影之外也熱愛衝浪，與他年輕時在牙買加的生活有關，也因此結識了世界各地的知名衝浪手，更創作了一系列與衝浪、海洋有關的作品。 曾舉辦許多個展與聯展，包含2006年與2008年 國際雙年展，National Gallery，京斯敦，牙買家。Bob Marley 週年紀念，於 Bob Marley 博物館， 京斯敦，牙買加。「極性Polartiy」(第8次個展）於Jane Corkin 藝廊，多倫多，加拿大。作品「”與藍的對話 Conversations with Blue 」曾在巴黎Colette、東京Clear藝廊以及加拿大多倫多的Corkin藝廊展出。作品在世界各地的公開與私人收藏中具有十分重要的地位。
Born 1955 in Kingston, Jamaica. In the mid-1970s, He moved to Toronto, Canada and began his photography career. Had a chance to took stage photos for Bob Marley’s first concert in North America in 1975. Also has an exhibition at the Jane Corkin Gallery in 1987. The same year, he left Toronto and moved to Paris for ten years where he embarked on fashion photography while pursuing his artistic work. Nigel has been creative in collaborations for surfboards, photography and books. His fashion photography has featured in several magazines including Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Glamour, Max and Cosmopolitan. He moved to New York at 1996, and now he works in many cities including Tokyo where his last book was published. He is also a surfing lover, which relates to his young age life in Jamaica and become friends with famous surfer around the world. And even does works about surfing and ocean. He has numerous solo and group exhibitions: 2006, 2008 National Biennale, National Gallery, Kingston, Jamaica. Bob Marley Anniversary Bob Marley Museum Kingston, Jamaica.
